The Eco Experience

Every aspect of our work has sustainability and the environment at the fore and we very much support and encourage a more sustainable lifestyle. YEL, via PPLH Bohorok, aims to promote greater awareness of nature and the environment and to enhance the quality of life of all its various inhabitants.

Outreach and Education: focussing on West Coast of Aceh province; improving education and awareness relating to the environment, to orang-utan and other wildlife conservation, environmental health issues and disaster mitigation and preparedness.

Community Development: focussed in North Sumatra province. improving environmental and ecological awareness, promotion of sustainable organic farming methods and assistancing community development & empowerment.

Ecolodge Bukit Lawang: serving as a model for ecotourism development in sensitive areas, demonstrating sustainable living principles (including waste management, organic food, eco-building design) and environmental educational programmes. Nearby is PPLH Bohoroks own organic vegetable garden.

PPLH Seloliman: in the island of Java and aimed at conserving the local environment, the centre offers tailor-made education programmes, community development programmes, traditional training workshops, and organic farming in practice

At Ecolodge Bukit Lawang, an important aspect of this environment policy is the involvment of the local community: Most of our employees are local villagers and we offer a number of educational programmes, organic farming and support several local community development projects.
